How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk at Universal Epic Universe

Everything we know about How to Train Your Dragon - Isle of Berk

Universal Orlando Resort is one of our favorite theme parks, and we are looking forward to the opening of its fourth themed park, Epic Universe, in 2025!

In case you haven’t been following along like we have, Universal Epic Universe will have a central hub, called Celestial Park and 4 portals which will lead to immersive, new themed lands. You can read more about Epic Universe here.

Today we are taking a closer look at what the How To Train Your Dragon themed land will include! The official name of the land is How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk. It is a mouthful, but if you have seen DreamWorks How to Train Your Dragon or read Cressida Cowell’s How to Train Your Dragon book series, or you will definitely know what Berk is!

The How to Train Your Dragon movies were originally inspired by Cowell’s book series. However, this new land is based off of the DreamWorks movie trilogy, and takes place in-between the 2nd and 3rd movies.  You will encounter many of your favorite characters from the movies throughout the land, so if it has been a little while, you may want to brush up on your Dragon-riding Viking lore!

The premise: as you explore How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk and discover an island, home to the Viking village of Berk, where Vikings and fire-breathing dragons exist together in harmony. Here you will experience fun for all ages with a roller coaster ride, live stage show, dragon trainer attraction, encounter flying dragons throughout the land and more!

Artist rendering of the new Universal Epic Universe Hiccups Winged Gliders

Hiccup's Wing Gliders (coaster attraction)

Fans of the movie will know all about  Hiccup’s love of engineering! Hiccup is an inventor by nature and his workshop is where he originally crafted Toothless’ prosthetic tail fin and sail.  This is where the story for Hiccup’s Wing Gliders is set.

Hiccup’s Wing Gliders is a rail coaster for dragon-riders over 40″ tall (children under 48″ will need to be accompanied by a supervising companion). Most Universal Orlando attractions with a height requirement have a ride swap option, and its likely this one will too, but nothing official is posted.

This rail coaster will give you a dragon’s eye view as you launch into the air, swooping and soaring and encountering Hiccup and Toothless along the way.

Live Untrainable Dragon show rendering with toothless flying

The Untrainable Dragon (live stage show)

Get ready for a brand new comedic live Broadway-quality show filled with incredible music called,  The Untrainable Dragon.

This show will feature some of the big, beautiful dragons you know and love, including Toothless, Cloudjumper and Stormfly who assist familiar Vikings: Hiccup, Gobber and Astrid as they encounter a new dragon and seek to unravel its mystery on the Isle of Berk.

This show is geared for kids of all ages. Our beloved Night Fury, Toothless, will soar above the crowds with a 27 foot wingspan and will feature sudden and intense sound effects, theatrical lighting effects and will have performers in close proximity to the audience.

Dragon Racers rode rendering

Dragon Racer's Rally (ride)

Dragon Racing is a REALLY big deal on Berk, and you will get your chance to train to be a Dragon Racer on Dragon Racer’s Alley. You will need to bring your high-flying, gravity-defying, swooping and soaring skills as you practice aerobatic maneuvers and as many barrel rolls as you wish as you train to be a championship dragon racer! You are going to be able to control the movement a bit, so don’t write this one off if you are sensitive to movement just yet!

Dragon Racer’s Alley will have a 48″ height requirement, and again like most rides with a height requirement will likely have a rider swap option.

Fyre Drill boat ride showing family spraying dragons in a rendering for new How to Train Your Dragon Land at Universal Epic Universe

Fyre Drill (water ride)

Fyre Drill – Enjoy an interactive boat ride surrounded by dragons! Where there are dragons, there is fire. So you will board a Viking ship and blast your water cannons at flame-like targets, to keep Berk from getting too toasty in a simulated interactive boat battle at sea! Besides trying to hit your dragon targets, you will also get the opportunity to blast water cannons at the occupants of every other boat to out-soak other Vikings!

There is no minimum height requirement to ride Fyre Drill, but you must not mind getting wet as it is likely you could get pretty wet on this boat ride! It is noted that children under 48″ tall must be accompanied by a Supervising Companion, and hand-held infants are not permitted to ride.

Viking Training Camp (kids play area)

The littlest Vikings have been included in the planning of this new land, and Viking Training Camp was designed just for them! This Training Camp is a colorful, fun interactive play area with towers to climb, slides to slide, an agility course, a Toothless-themed teeter-totter, an interactive sheep launcher game, drums and more. We think this will be the perfect spot with plenty of shady areas for the youngest Vikings!

Mead Hall (dining)

Theme park guests and Vikings have a tendency to get grumpy if they are hungry, but thankfully there will be plenty of ways to fill those Viking bellies at Mead Hall in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk.

Slated to reflect the iconic grand gathering place seen in the movies, and to be a place where all Vikings can enjoy a quick service meal in an immersive location. Incredible decor will fill the walls all the way up to it’s 16′ ceilings.

What is there to eat in Mead Hall?
The menu will feature a hearty menu including meat, fish, sandwiches and dessert options. A fun selection of meads, ciders and ales will be available for Vikings 21 and over!
